In the enchanting setting of Villa La Massa, with its beautiful terrace overlooking the River Arno, an event for lovers of fine wine and gourmet cuisine will take place.
On 29 September, the Wine Dinner “Sangiovese a confronto” will offer a unique opportunity to taste some of the most celebrated labels:
Fontodi Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo 2021
Fontodi Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Pastrolo 2021
Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve 2021
Each wine, selected by our Group Wine Director, Alex Bartoli, will tell a story of passion, terroir, and tradition. Perfectly paired with this exceptional tasting, the Chef will present a four-course menu designed to enhance the nuances and elegance of the wines, striking a refined balance between authenticity and creativity. A unique food and wine experience, immersed in the splendid setting of Villa La Massa.
Tenuta Fontodi lies in the heart of the Chianti Classico, in the valley south of Panzano, known as the “Conca d’Oro” for its soils particularly suited to viticulture. Fontodi’s wines were already renowned at the beginning of the century, as evidenced by numerous international awards. Since 1968, the estate has been owned by the Manetti family, who for centuries have also been dedicated to producing the famous terracotta floors.
In recent years, the estate has focused on restoring the original identity of Chianti Classico wines, combining harmony and complexity through the adoption of careful cultivation methods and modern winemaking techniques. The research has centred on Sangiovese, aiming to reveal the still partly unexplored potential of this grape within Panzano’s unique pedoclimatic conditions. The result has been both a qualitative enhancement of Chianti Classico wines and the creation of the Flaccianello della Pieve and Vigna del Sorbo.
The Flaccianello della Pieve is Fontodi’s flagship label, produced only in the finest vintages. The grapes come from calcareous-clay soils, ideal for enhancing the grape’s finesse and structure. Vinification takes place through spontaneous fermentation, followed by 24 months ageing in French oak barriques. On the nose, it reveals elegant notes of cherry, plum, leather and spices; on the palate, it is rich, powerful and harmonious, with silky tannins and a long, enveloping finish. Perfect for extended ageing.
Four-course tasting menu with premium wine pairings – €125 per person.
